Dragon Dash is our annual jog-a-thon fundraiser. This is our largest fundraiser each year, raising over $95k in the 2019-2020 school year. It’s also a super fun event for the kids, where they can run, jog, or walk with their classmates and teachers to raise money for our school. Each year, we partner with Booster, a national company that helps schools raise funds with their fitness and character programs. We are excited that we will be able to host an in-person run for our 2021 Dragon Dash.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Dragon Dash JOG-A-THOn?
The Dragon Dash jog-a-thon is a fun run organized by the PTO and will take place April 6th & 7th, 2021.  Dragon Dash is our largest fundraiser of the year, with proceeds going towards innumerable educational enhancements for our students & staff. Families normally collect donations for the laps their student(s) walk/jog/run, however this year the children will simply run for a set amount of time and will be given the national average laps, which is 35. Funds raised from this event go to help fund the PTO’s Annual Budget.
What is Booster & why DOES Flagstaff Academy PTO partner with them?
Booster is a national fun run company specializing in helping schools raise funds with their fitness and character programs. Flagstaff Academy PTO has partnered with Booster the last few years and our jog-a-thon has increased in its fundraising success.  Booster helps Flagstaff Academy's PTO lessen its volunteers needed and has increased the success of this event
What are we raising funds for?
Dragon Dash donations will be used to help fund the PTO Annual Budget. These funds go directly back to the school to pay for amenities not found elsewhere in the district. In past years, donations have helped fund the Innovations Lab, coding software, more library books, the bouldering wall, Colorado Mountain Club Outdoor Education, chromebooks, mental health education, smart boards and many more items!  The teacher incentive program allows us to gift 10% of each classroom net donations to go directly back to your student’s classroom teacher!  Last year we gifted the teachers over $9K to spend on their own classrooms as a result of this program. Learn More.
How do I register My student(s)?
Log in or sign up on funrun.com. Then, register your student as a participant by searching for the school by name. Students get a free prize just for registering.
Is it safe to register my student(s) at FunRun.com?
Yes! Funrun.com is protected by and covered under COPPA, the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, which means Boosterthon will not disseminate any personal information. Boosterthon follows all standards associated with that act to create the safest online environment possible. That’s why in order to create an account, you must be 18 years or older and why there is a waiver that parents must accept when they register their student.
HOW CAN STUDENTS GET PLEDGES?
Students can connect to donors by sharing their Giving Guide on Facebook, through email, or even a text. Each student’s pledging dashboard has a SHARE BUTTON to easily share about fundraiser through email, text and social media. Donors can enter and pay for those pledges online on your student’s page!
CAN DONORS PAY FOR PLEDGES ONLINE?
YES! Donors will be prompted to pay online for all pledges, even per lap pledges. All runners will receive the national average, which is 35 laps, this year in lieu of lap marking.  We are limiting contact with the children due to the pandemic.  Donors will receive an email after the run with the amount of their payment based on how many laps were run.
CAN I MAKE A PLEDGE IF I DON’T WANT TO PAY ONLINE?
Yes. You can either turn in the payment for a pledge listed on the GIVING GUIDE, or you can request to turn off online payments for your account through our help desk on funrun.com. If you turn in a cash or check donation (made payable to Flagstaff Academy PTO), please put the donation into an envelope clearly labeled with your student’s name and teacher’s name.  There is a stand alone mailbox in the vestibule of school during Dragon Dash your child can deposit his/her clearly labeled envelope into.
CAN I WRITE A CHECK OR GIVE CASH?
Certainly, for pledges that are not made on funrun.com, you can turn in cash or check to the school by Friday, April 9th, 2021. Place your donation into an enclosed envelope clearly labeled with the student's & teacher's name. These can be turned into their teacher with the Giving Guide or dropped in the red mailbox in the vestibule. Please make checks out to: Flagstaff Academy PTO.
WHAT IF FAMILIES DON’T HAVE INTERNET?
If a student's family does not have Internet access, they can use the giving guide to record all pledges and send in the payment with the students giving guide. When your student(s) turn in their giving guide please be sure to secure the payment in a sealed envelope and include the student name & teacher's name. They may turn this into their teacher with their Giving Guide or drop in the red mailbox in the vestibule.
WILL MY STUDENT STILL EARN PRIZES FOR DONATIONS THEY COLLECT THIS YEAR?
Yes! During the program, students will receive the prizes they’ve earned for the donations (per lap or flat) the very next day. Booster & the PTO are following strict guidelines to keep everyone safe.  The classrooms will have set times to visit the Booster tent in the parking lot to receive their prizes on a daily basis during Dragon Dash.  If your student is virtual only, he/she will have their prizes mailed to them at the end of the program.
CAN STUDENTS RECEIVE A PRIZE FOR FLAT DONATIONS?
Yes! All flat donations count toward pledges and are rounded by 30 (the average student will run over 30 laps). So, a $30 donation is the same as $1 per lap. A $60 donation is the same as $2 per lap, etc.
WILL MY STUDENT REALLY RUN 30 LAPS? HOW BIG IS THE TRACK? HOW LONG WILL THEY RUN?
Yes, even pre-schoolers & kindergarteners! The Dragon Dash jog - a thon track is about 1/16th of a mile and the national average is 35 laps.  This year each student will report 35 laps in order to eliminate t-shirt lap marking, regardless of how many laps are walked or run.  Pre-k and kindergarteners will run for 15 minutes.  Grades 1-8 will run for 25 minutes.
IS RUNNING ON THE PAVEMENT SAFE?
We actually had fewer injuries running in the parking lot versus the grass than in past years. The Dragon Dash jog-a-thon is a FUN RUN, so students will jog, run, skip, jump, do a conga line and take dance breaks. We always have our amazing nurse in the building, just in case.
DOES MY STUDENT NEED TO BRING ANYTHING SPECIAL THAT DAY?
Please have students wear athletic shoes on Tuesday, April 6th & Wednesday, April 7th.  They will be receiving a special Dragon Dash jog-a-thon t-shirt they will wear given out by their teacher. Nothing else is needed.
CAN I RUN WITH MY STUDENT(S)?
Unfortunately, there will be no parent involvement nor the ability to watch your child run on Dragon Dash race day this year.  Given the strict guidelines and safety precautions, we are encouraging parents/caregivers to stay home this year.  We hope that you will be able to run with your dragon next year.
WILL TOP FINISHERS IN EACH CLASS RECEIVE AWARDS THIS YEAR?
No ribbons, medals or trophies will be awarded this year.
WILL STUDENT(S) RECEIVE A SNACK AND WATER AFTER THEY RUN THIS YEAR?
Students are welcome to bring their own water bottle to drink from & they have the ability to refill it from the water fountain inside the school.  Students will not be receiving a snack after running. However, you are welcome to pack an extra snack for their student(s).
HOW WILL THE NUMBER OF LAPS MY STUDENT(S) RUN BE TRACKED THIS YEAR?
Given our strict safety precautions in this pandemic year, there will be no lap marking of the t-shirt as in years past.  However, each student will be awarded 35 laps, which is the national average, and each student will receive the Dragon Dash jog-a-thon t-shirt.
Will middle school be doing the color run again this year?
We don't yet know if we will be able to do the color run for our Middle School students this year. Check back here or watch the PTO emails for more information to come on this.
What if my student is remote only?
Your student can still participate! The daily character videos from Booster will be shared with remote students during class. Remote only students will be able to collect pledges and are encouraged to "run from home" during their cohort running time (if it is safe to do so). As with in-person students, remote only students will be automatically awarded 35 laps. T-shirts and prizes for remote only students will be available for pick up. Check back here or watch the PTO emails for more information on pick up dates and times.
