Parents often ask, what does our PTO do? What happens to the funds that are raised during the school year? Below is a brief summary of what happened in the 2021-2022 school year.
Our fundraising efforts have included: AmazonSmile, Box Tops for Education, King Soopers Community Rewards, Milk Caps for Moola, Dining for Dragons (restaurant nights), Dragon Dash and donations from our generous Dragon families. Thanks to you, we have raised over $150,000 for this school year!

Where does this money go?
Allocation to the School: Every year we allocate $65,000 to help offset the school's operating expenses. This covers general expenses, minimizing staff layoffs, Professional Development support, technology support and Chromebooks, and basic classroom needs.
Community Building Events: The PTO was excited to bring back community building events this school year! We’ve hosted park playdates, a summer picnic, a Back to School Pool Party, and a first day of Kindergarten Boo-hoo/Yahoo Breakfast. We were also able to host our popular Dragon Dash Jog-a-thon, the Fall Festival, and our first Festival of Lights. We planned Summer 2022 playdates for Preschool through Middle School. We also planned a few parent socials over the summer. We scheduled August 2022 pool parties for Middle School and for Elementary Hospitality: Our amazing hospitality committee was able to celebrate our staff each month. Not only were we able to fund an entire year’s worth of k-cups, we provided a back to school staff survival station, catered conference dinners, brought in a coffee--hot chocolate--chai tea bar, created a harvest table where staff were able to bring home fresh produce, and supplied a wassail station and gift cards for every staff member in the month of December. In the new year, we sent Love Notes to all staff, catered dinner for conferences in the Spring and managed all of the amazing gifts for Teacher Appreciation Week. Dragon Spectrum: We continued financing the Dragon Spectrum, our in house student-produced newspaper. |
Teacher Grants: Your donations helped the PTO provide over $15,000 towards the Teacher Grants program. With this money, we provided teachers with Closing the Phonics Gap curriculum, a comparative book study for Middle School Language Arts, Middle School Art & Yearbook Cameras, Cross Curricular Cli-Fi Book Clubs, Enthusiastic Readers, Gifted and Talented resources, scientific calculators, Project Lit supplies and graphic novels for the library, flexible courtyard seating, and PRIDE Emporium supplies.
Middle School: Thanks to your generosity, our middle school committee was able to host a Halloween Party as well as their Winter Holiday Party. Dragon Wellness: Our Dragon Wellness committee hosted the Great Candy Bring Back. Your donations went to funding the prizes given to the classrooms who won by bringing the most candy back to school! Spirit Wear: The PTO funds Spirit Wear so our Dragons can represent our school in style! Other: In addition to all of the above categories, the PTO was able to provide prizes for the staff’s Tech Fest, an upgraded PTO communications platform, and each teacher received 10% of what their classroom earned from the Dragon Dash to spend within the classroom. Not only were we able to help the school financially, we provided at least one room parent in every class and found enough volunteers to support every event we have hosted this year. |
On behalf of the PTO, thank you for your generosity, time, and your commitment to our school!
